The chapters on ideology, maintaining romance in your relationship, and the role of the artist (the rule about making one room in your house as beautiful as possible) contain some of the most profound ideas I've ever read - and they are yet again improving my life and relationships dramatically. I preordered Beyond Order and was blown away by it when it came out, too. It's hard to overestimate how grateful I feel to JP. She read 12 Rules and is now reading Beyond Order, too. ![]() I started bearing responsibility in daily life and owning my strength. A couple of years later, now in the (non-academic) workforce and struggling to figure things out with my partner, I read it again and it changed my life. ![]() Still, I was impressed and empowered to improve myself. I thought it was surprisingly good, but didn't agree with a number of things. I read 12 Rules at first as a guarded, aspiring academic. ![]() It felt like he was speaking to my frickin' soul and head at the same time. But then I started watching his lectures and I found him mesmerizing. As a political liberal, I was leery of Peterson at first based on the YouTube videos with titles like "Jordan Peterson OWNS feminist," his transgender views, and his interviews with Ben Shapiro. So I've read both books - and found both life-altering and profound. ![]()
